Day 6, Thursday, 3/12/15: Dateland, AZ (66º at 5:30 am) to Gila Bend, AZ (88º at 1:45 pm) 52 miles, elevation change: +673/-327

Hooray for Another Day! Today was simply a day of getting from one RV campground to the next. Last night the campground had Interstate 8 on one side and the Union Pacific RR on the other. It was a challenging night to sleep with constant truck noise, huge freight trains coming through each hour, and the friendly cricket that was just outside my tent. Earplugs helped some!

We only rode 52 miles because there are very few campgrounds that can service a group of 62. It wasn’t a particularly scenic day in the dessert as we rode on the frontage road beside Interstate 8, then on I-8, and then finished on the frontage road paralleling I-8 to Gila Bend. There simply aren’t any other roads to ride on. I was in Gila Bend eating at Sophie’s Mexican Restaurant by 12:30 pm and at the RV campground by 1:30. Here are a few photos.

The view from Big Blue as I headed east in the desert.

Welcome to Gila Bend.

RV Campground with tents set-up on crushed rock. Thank goodness for a 5" high air mattress.

The rain wasn't reaching the ground, rainbow just before sunset.

Sunset!

Make it a great day!

John
